Check out how we use technology...
weather madness
Everyday we begin class with a morning meeting on the rug. During this time we explore the day's the weather by checking out the forecast on The Weather Channel. This allows us to discuss the weather forecast hourly, for the entire day, and for the entire week. By using this site daily we are able to learn more than if it simply looks sunny, cloudy, rainy, etc. outside, we are able to predict, analyze, and learn across the curriculum. For example, one of the class's favorite activity is a daily poll where we graph our predictions about whether or not they think PE will be outside.
Fact of the day
Everyday during our Science/Social Studies block we begin by having a brief discussion on either the Goddard Space Centers Pic of the Day or the This Day in History video. These brief discussions introduce students to various wonders of the natural world and important historical events, which they are very eager to share with their friends and you! Having these discussions also allow students to use critical thinking skills.

extra, extra read all about it
Also a daily part of our morning meeting on the rug is Word Central's Daily Buzzword. Each morning we find out what the word is, discuss its meaning, add it to our words to listen for board, and practice using it in a variety of sentences.
The words to listen for board includes the weeks sight words and each days buzzword. Each time we hear or use any of these words throughout the day we place a check mark beside of it. Once each word has fifteen marks the word is retired and taken off the board and replaced. I encourage you to listen for and use these words at home as well. The students love sharing these words with you and are excited to share with the class that they hear/use the words at home. unraveling the mystery
One of the fun activities we like to participate in is MysteryNet's Get-A-Clue online mystery. We use this activity on a variety of occasions: during down time, as a student selected reward, and as a brain break.
